Update: October 14, 2024. Shooting Range Open on Saturdays - Appointment Required.

The BVSA Shooting Range is located at 31000 Deertrail Dr. It includes a pistol range, a rifle range, and a trap range. The pistol and rifle ranges have a covered & fenced shooting area with baffles separating the shooting positions.

All shooters must complete a short test; sign the release of liability form & all other acknowledgement forms through RecDesk prior making their appointment to use the Range. All firearms & ammunition will be inspected at the Range by BVS Ranger RSO’s prior to being authorized to shoot.

4/26/2023 - Shooting Range Open to Rifles effective Saturday, April 29th!

In January the Shooting Range was reopened to pistols and shotguns. Under the direction of the BVSA Board of Directors, the BVSA staff has researched and instituted safety protocols and adequate staffing to allow rifles in addition to pistols and shotguns at the Shooting Range.

All members and guests who plan to use the Range will need to register on the Whiting Center’s online portal, RecDesk - bvsa.recdesk.com if they have not previously done so in 2023. The Whiting Center staff will verify membership status and guest sponsorship. Once approved, the member and/or guest will complete liability forms, a safety test, and initial agreement to the updated Standard Operating Procedures that have been approved for use of the range through RecDesk.

Upon completion, the member will be able to contact the Whiting Center by phone (661-821-6641) or in person to schedule their appointment time and pay the guest fee for any guest that will be accompanying them (and has also completed the above).

The Whiting Center is happy to assist members who may not be comfortable with technology in registering in person at the Whiting Center front desk.

The Range is currently scheduled to be open on Saturdays and an appointment must be made with 24-48 hour notice at the Whiting Center for a 2 hour block (no same day reservations will be available). This schedule may be modified in the future based on participation and Ranger schedules.

The Range will be staffed based on a maximum of up to 10 members/guests at a time.

The Range is only open and staffed with a minimum of 5 shooters reserved.

The Range will be open based on information from the Fire Department. It will close or be unavailable on "red flag days" or when high winds and dry conditions are expected. This means that the range may seasonally close or be sporadic in the summer and/or fall.

Thank you for your patience as we have worked to determine best practices. We are excited to to add in rifles to this amenity for the enjoyment of our members while also exercising the caution necessary to keep our community safe.

12/20/23 - BVSA SHOOTING RANGE UPDATE!!!!

As of December 16, 2023, the requirement of five (5) shooters to open the Range has been modified. The new requirement has been reduced to two (2) shooters. This was effective as of the date above however, the Range will still be subject to closures based on any safety conditions that may exist. This will include Red Flag Warnings as determined by the Kern County Fire Department, bad weather either at the Range or as a result of the roads being unsafe for travel (i.e.; snow and/or ice), or the lack of Range Safety Officers available for safe operations. There is currently two shooting times available to make reservations for, 8:30am-10:30amand 10:30am-12:30pm. Contact the Whiting Center at 821-6641 to make your reservations. Reservations for Saturday must be received by the Whiting Center by 3:00pm on the Friday before. So make your reservations and come up and enjoy another of BVSA’s wonderful amenities. We look forward to seeing you soon!
