Over the last few weeks the LQAC has been monitoring the algae growth in Four Island Lake.   Once it appeared that there was a full bloom occurring in the lake an outside lake consultant was contacted and sent pictures of the algae that were taken through a microscope, as well as pictures of the lake’s surface.  Based on the consultant’s recommendations the LQAC worked with BVSA management to begin the process of partnering with the state of California’s Water Quality Monitoring Council, and implement their protocol for a potential Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB).  This was done out of an abundance of caution for the valley’s residents, and pets.  A water sample was sent to a lab for analysis 8/18/20 and we hope to have results by the weekend.  The results of this test will be made available to the public through the States website through this link https://mywaterquality.ca.gov/habs/where/freshwater_events.html.  Once at the website select Four Island Lake’s location either through the interactive map, or the list on the left hand side of the map and up to date details will be displayed.   By partnering with the state the valley gains the ability to provide accurate up-to-date information to the public regarding HAB’s within the valley.  So please visit the website as this will be where the most up-to-date HAB information will be displayed.
